“The web and social networks represent an indispensable place to reach out to young people and involve them, including in pastoral initiatives and activities.”
(Pope Francis in Christus Vivit)
Faced with the challenge of evangelizing with greater quality and responsibility in social networks, as a Province, Sisters, MOLAVIM, PRENOVICIAS and young people, we have participated in the workshop “The use of social networks for evangelization“, taught by Brother Salvador Ramirez SSP, beginning on Monday 12 and ending on Friday 16 of this month of October 2020, via ZOOM.
In view of the different expectations and concerns about how it would be carried out, the interest of each participant in the topics that were being developed began to emerge.
Being able to know more, and learning the proper use of the networks, managed to remove in some the fear in the face of the challenge that is presented to us today as a response to communicate our faith to others, and not to stay in the background thus reducing our expression of faith to personal and intimate space.
In a simple and approachable manner and with great knowledge of the subject, Brother Salvador led us along a path of great interest in conveying the objective of the workshop. A path that he approached starting from the importance of communicating and not only that, but communicating as Christians. She also pointed out the fundamental importance of getting to know our target audience, with the help of graphically representing our young women through the creation of an Avatar. And he presented important topics such as: “the use of social networks that have more impact in Mexico” or “Civility in social networks”. Another important topic was “communicating better in social networks” in which we saw suggestions for color ranges to be used, as well as typographies, images, content that can make our publications attractive, and the best times to publish.
As part of the workshop we were motivated to do a final work to continue taking quality steps in our social media pages. He invited us to “Plan our digital future” through a project for the near future of our evangelizing presence from what we want to transmit, without losing our RMI identity, and attending to the public we want to reach and how to do it effectively. The result of this work is a project that we will implement from now on and that we will review in three months, taking into account all the indications received. Small groups have already been formed to divide the work and thus join forces.
In conclusion, Sr. Blanca Herrera and Sr. Ada Mabel Mier briefly presented the theme that they saw from Rome online: “In communion we communicate”, focusing specifically on the “profile of the RMI coordinator on the web”.
We thank God for all the learning during this week. We ended happy and with the challenge to continue looking for alternatives to continue evangelization in social networks, having greater certainty that people can deepen and strengthen their faith through these new technologies.
